A Rare Thing the King Requires - Daniel 2:11

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams that he brought magicians, astrologers and Chaldeans in to interpret. However, they were unable to reveal his dream to him, and Nebuchadnezzar, said, I know of certainty that you would gain the time, because you see the thing is gone from me. But if you will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for you have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that you can show me the interpretation thereof. The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse eleven Daniel shared how the Chaldeans told King Nebuchadnezzar, “it is a rare thing that the king requires” where we read,

And it is a rare thing that the king requires,

and there is none other that can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

The verse reads, “And it is a rare thing that the king requires, ... Daniel began with the words, “and it is a rare thing” or “and it, revealing King Nebuchadnezzar's dream, exists as an infrequent, uncommon and difficult utterance, command and affair” “that the king requires” which means “that the royal ruler and leader asks, inquires and requests”. Daniel shared how the Chaldeans and astrologers told King Nebuchadnezzar that what he was requesting was a difficult and uncommon affair.

The verse goes on to say, “... and there is none other that can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.” Daniel continued with the words, “and there is none other” which means “and there does not another person” “that can show it” or “who is able to inform, declare and reveal it, the dream” “before the king” which means “in front and in the presence of the royal ruler and leader, King Nebuchadnezzar”, “except the gods” or “save, but and with the exception of the deities”, “whose dwelling is not with flesh” which means “whose place of living, abode and habitation does not exist with fleshly bodies”. Daniel shared how the men of Chaldea told King Nebuchadnezzar that not one person exists other than deities who do not live among people who is able to reveal his dream to him.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how the wise men of Chaldea continued to delay their answer to King Nebuchadnezzar by stating that his request was unusual because no one in authority asked such a question of their servants. They concluded that no person and only “gods” would be able to fulfill the king's request. However, God knew the answer, and He would reveal it to Daniel in the verses ahead. God knows the answer for our salvation as well, and He provided it when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised him from the dead three days later. When we surrender our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to help us know He is aware of the “rare things” that no other person is able to perceive.

Next time Daniel shares about King Nebuchadnezzar, “for this cause the king was angry and very furious”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
