The King Angry and Furious - Daniel 2:12

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams that he brought magicians, astrologers and Chaldeans in to interpret. However, they were unable to reveal his dream to him, and Nebuchadnezzar, said, I know of certainty that you would gain the time, because you see the thing is gone from me. But if you will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for you have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that you can show me the interpretation thereof. The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. And it is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is none other that can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse twelve Daniel said, “for this cause the king was angry and very furious” where we read,

For this cause the king was angry and very furious,

and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

The verse reads, “For this cause the king was angry and very furious, ... Daniel began with the words, “for this cause”or “on behalf of this response and reason” “the king was angry” which means “the royal ruler and leader existed as enraged and filled with wrath that wrinkles the nostrils and nose” “and very furious” or “and exceedingly and abundantly angry”. Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar became exceedingly angry and filled with wrath because of the wise men's response.

The verse continues, “... and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.” Daniel added the words, “and commanded to destroy” which means “and declared and ordered to make perish and vanish” “all the wise men” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of the learned and soothsaying male human beings” “of Babylon” which means “belonging to Babylon whose name means confusion and was the ancient site and/or capital of Babylonia (modern Hillah) situated on the Euphrates River”. Daniel said King Nebuchadnezzar ordered that every one of the learned men and soothsayers within “Babylon” to vanish and perish.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how King Nebuchadnezzar had enough of the delays of his so called “wise men”, so he became extremely angry and ordered that they all be killed. King Nebuchadnezzar was known to be a “hot-head”, and when things did not go the way he desired, he would be increased with wrath. God knew all these things about him and yet used him for His purposes and will. God knows us as well, and He loves us. He proved His love for us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us over and over again by His Holy Spirit that everyone is a candidate to experience the salvation of Jehovah God.

Next time Daniel said, “the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
