In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams that he summoned magicians, astrologers and Chaldeans to interpret. However, they were unable to reveal his dream and, “the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain. Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon. He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse sixteen Daniel shared how he, “desired of the king that he would give him time” where we read,
Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time,
and that he would show the king the interpretation.
The verse reads, “Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, ...” Daniel began with the words, “then Daniel went in” or “at that time Daniel whose name means God is my judge entered”, “and desired of the king” which means “and sought, requested and made a petition to the royal ruler and leader, Nebuchadnezzar” “that he would give him time” or “that he, King Nebuchadnezzar, would allow and bestow upon him, Daniel, a set time or small season”. Daniel shared how he entered into the presence of King Nebuchadnezzar and appealed to him for a little “time”.
The verse continues, “... and that he would show the king the interpretation.” Daniel added the words, “and that he would show the king” which means “and that he, Daniel, would inform, tell, reveal and declare to the royal ruler and leader, Nebuchadnezzar” “the interpretation” or “the rendering and meaning”. Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar that he would inform him of the meaning and rendering of his dream.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Daniel went directly to King Nebuchadnezzar and appealed to him for a little “time” to reveal his dream to him and the meaning of it. We shall see how Daniel used this “time” to go before Jehovah God in prayer, and he asked God to show him what the dream was and what it meant. God knew the answer to King Nebuchadnezzar's dream, and because Daniel had a good relationship with God and gifts from Him, He would be able to know how to answer the king. God wants us to have a personal relationship with Him as well, and He sent His Only Begotten Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins and raised him from the grave three days later to make that possible. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us so we may be guided into all truth and given the power to live according to that truth to the glory of His name. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8)
Next time Daniel shares how he, “went to his house, and made the thing known”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
