In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams that he summoned magicians, astrologers and Chaldeans to interpret. However, they were unable to reveal his dream, and “the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain. Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon. He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel. Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would show the king the interpretation”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse seventeen Daniel shared how he, “went to his house, and made the thing known” where we read,
Then Daniel went to his house,
and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:
The verse reads, “Then Daniel went to his house, ...” Daniel began with the words, “then Daniel” or “at that time Daniel whose name means God is my judge” “went to his house” which means “left and departed to his habitation, abode and dwelling place”. Daniel shared how he departed from King Nebuchadnezzar and went to his home.
The verse goes on to say, “... and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:” Daniel continued with the words, “and made the thing known” which means “and revealed the circumstances and situation” “to Hananiah” or “to Hananiah whose name means God has favored”, “Mishael” whose name means “who is what God is”, “and Azariah” or “and Jehovah has helped”, “his companions” which means “his, Daniel's, associates, fellows and comrades”. Daniel said he revealed the situation to “Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah” who were his associates and comrades.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Daniel departed from King Nebuchadnezzar and went to his own home. There he disclosed to his closest associates, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, the situation. Daniel knew this could be a troublesome affair, and rather than engaging it alone, he invited his friends to participate. Daniel knew his comrades would agree that they should go to God in prayer, and having others to pray with him was the key to this situation. (See James 5:16) God wants us to come to Him with all our troubles and difficulties, and when we submit to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us access to Him through His Holy Spirit to make an appeal for whatever comes into our lives. (See Hebrews 4:16)
Next time Daniel says the reason he told “Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah” was so, “they would desire mercies of the God of heaven”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
