Jehoiakim Given Over to Nebuchadnezzar - Daniel 1:2

In the book of Daniel, Daniel started his book by saying, “in the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it”, and in chapter one and verse two of Daniel, Daniel said, “the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand” where we read,

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

The verse reads, And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God:”Daniel began with the words, “and the Lord” which means “and the One to whom the Jewish people employ in place of Yahweh as a title of reverence” “gave Jehoiakim” or “granted, bestowed and assigned Jehoiakim whose name means ”“king of Judah” which means “royal ruler and leader belonging to Judah whose name means praised and was the kingdom comprised of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin which occupied the southern part of Canaan after the nation split upon the death of Solomon” “into his hand” or “into his, Nebuchadnezzar's, power, might and authority”, “with part of the vessels” which means “alongside a portion and allotment of the articles, implements and utensils” “of the house of God” or “belonging to the habitation, abode and dwelling place of the Supreme Deity”. Daniel shared how Jehovah God granted “Jehoiakim” who was the royal ruler belonging to “Judah” over to the power and authority of Nebuchadnezzar along with a portion of the implements and articles which were within the dwelling place of the Supreme Deity Jehovah.

The verse goes on to say, which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.” Daniel continued with the words, “which he carried in the the land” or “that he, Nebuchadnezzar, carried into the district, territory and region” “of Shinar” which means “belonging to Shinar whose name means country of two rivers and was the ancient name for the territory later known as Babylonia or Chaldea” “to the house of his god” or “to the habitation, abode and dwelling place of his, Nebuchadnezzar's, deity”; “and he brought the vessels” which means “and he, Nebuchadnezzar, carried the articles, implements and utensils” “in the treasure house”or “within the storehouse for gold, silver, food and drink” “of his god” which means “belonging to his, Nebuchadnezzar's, deity”. Daniel said Nebuchadnezzar brought the articles and implements from the dwelling place of Jehovah God to the territory known as “Shinar”, and he put them within the dwelling place and storehouse of his own deity.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how Nebuchadnezzar not only captured “Jehoiakim”, but he also took the articles and utensils from the dwelling place of Jehovah God, carried them back to his own territory and put them within the dwelling place and storehouse of his own “god”. We should not expect any less from this pagan king as most conquerors capture not only the leaders but also the treasures within a county. God allowed all of these things because He had a plan to produce the Savior of mankind who was His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the grave after three days. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us so we may know that even when circumstances are adverse to us, God is in control and He uses whomever He desires to accomplish His will.

Next time Daniel says, “the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
