Jeshua, Joiakim and Eliashib - Nehemiah 12:10

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, which was over the thanksgiving, he and his brethren. Also Bakbukiah and Unni, their brethren, were over against them in the watches”, and in chapter twelve and verse ten of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “Jeshua, Joiakim and Eliashib” where we read,

And Jeshua begat Joiakim, Joiakim also begat Eliashib, and Eliashib begat Joiada,

The verse reads, And Jeshua begat Joiakim, Joiakim also begat Eliashib, ... Nehemiah began with the words, “and Jeshua” whose name means “he is saved” “begat Joiakim” or “brought forth and engendered Joiakim whose name means Jehovah raises up” “Joiakim also begat Eliashib” whose name means “Joiakim whose name means Jehovah raises up even so and indeed brought forth and engendered Eliashib whose name means God restores”. Nehemiah shared how “Jeshua” was “Joiakim's” father, and “Joiakim” was “Eliashib's” father.

The verse continues, “... and Eliashib begat Joiada,” Nehemiah added the words, “and Eliashib” or “God restores” “begat Joiada” which means “brought forth and engendered Joiada whose name means Jehovah knows”. Nehemiah said “Eliashib” was “Joiada's” father.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about the lineage of some of the Levites. These men, “Jeshua, Joiakim, Eliashib and Joiada” were part of a family, and they worked in the Kingdom of God in the areas of service in the temple. God wants us to be a part of His family, and when we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and was raised from the grave three days later as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and include us in His family and Kingdom which shall remain for ever and evermore.

Next time Nehemiah shares about, “Joiada and Jonathan”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
