In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, which was over the thanksgiving, he and his brethren. Also Bakbukiah and Unni, their brethren, were over against them in the watches, and Jeshua begat Joiakim, Joiakim also begat Eliashib, and Eliashib begat Joiada, ...”, and in chapter twelve and verse eleven of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “Joiada and Jonathan” where we read,
And Joiada begat Jonathan, and Jonathan begat Jaddua.
The verse reads, “And Joiada begat Jonathan, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “and Joiada” whose name means “Jehovah knows” “begat Jonathan” or “brought forth and engendered Jonathan whose name means Jehovah has given”. Nehemiah shared how “Joiada” was “Jonathan's” father.
The verse goes on to say, “... and Jonathan begat Jaddua.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “and Jonathan” or “and Jehovah has given” “begat Jaddua” which means “brought forth and engendered Jaddua whose name means knowing”. Nehemiah said “Jonathan” was “Jaddua's” father.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Nehemiah more of the family lineage of the “Levites”through “Jeshua”. “Joiada” was “Jonathan's” father, and “Jonathan” was “Jaddua's” father which makes “Joiada” “Jaddua's” grandfather and so on. God was using these men in His Kingdom, and they continued from generation to generation. God wants us to be involved in His Kingdom work, (See Matthew 6:33) and when we surrender our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and rose from the dead three days later, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us places, positions and families who serve Him while we are in this world and in the next.
Next time Nehemiah says, “in the days of Joiakim were priests, the chief of the fathers”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
