Of Abijah, Zichri - Nehemiah 12:17

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, in the days of Joiakim were priests, the chief of the fathers: of Seraiah, Meraiah; of Jeremiah, Hananiah, of Ezra, Meshullam; of Amariah, Jehohanan, of Melicu, Jonathan; of Shebaniah, Joseph, of Harim, Adna; of Meraioth, Helkai, of Iddo, Zechariah; of Ginnethon, Meshullam”, and in chapter twelve and verse seventeen of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “of Abijah, Zichri” where we read,

Of Abijah, Zichri; of Miniamin, of Moadiah, Piltai;

The verse reads, Of Abijah, Zichri; Nehemiah began with the words, “Of Abijah” or Abiah or Abia whose name means “Jehovah is my father”, “Zichri” or “memorable”. Nehemiah shared how “Zichri” or “memorable” was the descendant of “Abijah” or “Jehovah is my father” was among the priests who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel.

The verse goes on to say, “of Miniamin, of Moadiah, Piltai;” Nehemiah continues the words, “of Miniamin” or “belonging to Miniamin whose name means from the right hand”, “of Moadiah” which means “belonging to Moadiah whose name means the set time of JAH”, “Piltai” or “my deliverances”. Nehemiah shared how “Piltai” who descended from “Miniamin and Moadiah” was among the priests who went back to his homeland of Judah and Jerusalem with Zerubbabel.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about two more priests who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel. “Zichri” or “memorable” who descended from “Abijah” and “Piltai” or “my deliverances” who descended from “Miniamin and Moadiah” went back to their homeland at the commission of Jehovah God. God knows our names as well, and He wants us to come to Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for all our sins and was resurrected from the dead three days later. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and lead us by His Holy Spirit to the places we are to be and how we are to serve Him there. Let all who read these words believe in Jesus, and obey God's commission to “come” unto Him. (See Matthew 11:28; Revelation 22:17)

Next time Nehemiah says, “of Bilgah, Shammua”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
