Of Sallai, Kallai - Nehemiah 12:20

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, in the days of Joiakim were priests, the chief of the fathers: of Seraiah, Meraiah; of Jeremiah, Hananiah, of Ezra, Meshullam; of Amariah, Jehohanan, of Melicu, Jonathan; of Shebaniah, Joseph, of Harim, Adna; of Meraioth, Helkai, of Iddo, Zechariah; Of Ginnethon, Meshullam, of Abijah, Zichri; of Miniamin, of Moadiah, Piltai; Of Bilgah, Shammua; of Shemaiah, Jehonathan; And of Joiarib, Mattenai; of Jedaiah, Uzzi;”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “of Sallai, Kallai” where we read,

Of Sallai, Kallai; of Amok, Eber;

The verse reads, Of Sallai, Kallai; Nehemiah began with the words, “of Sallai” whose name means “belonging to Sallai or Salu or Sallu whose name means weighed”, “Kallai” or “swift”. Nehemiah shared how “Kallai” or “swift” was among the priests who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel.

The verse continues, “of Amok, Eber;” Nehemiah added words, “of Amok” or “to be deep”, “Eber” or Heber whose name means “the region beyond”. Nehemiah shared how “Eber” or “the region beyond” was also among the priests who went back to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel.

When we consider Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover two more of the men who were priests that returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel. “Kallai and Eber” who descended from “Sallai and Amok” obeyed God's directive to go back to Jerusalem and Judah after being exiled in Babylon for seventy years. God was assembling His team of ministers, and one by one these men were demonstrating their willingness to follow Him. God wants us to follow Him as well, and when we put our faith and trust in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and rose from the grave three days later, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to lead and guide us to serve Him every day of our lives.

Next time Nehemiah says, “of Hilkiah, Hashabiah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
