Shemaiah, and Joiarib, Jedaiah - Nehemiah 12:6

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, these are the priests and the Levites that went up with Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua: Seraiah, Jeremiah, Ezra, Amariah, Malluch, Hattush, Shechaniah, Rehum, Meremoth. Iddo, Ginnetho, Abijah, Miamin, Maadiah and Bilgah ...”, and in chapter twelve and verse six of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “Shemaiah, and Joiarib and Jedaiah ...” where we read,

Shemaiah, and Joiarib, Jedaiah

The verse reads, Shemaiah, and Joiarib, Jedaiah Nehemiah began with the word, “Shemaiah” whose name means “heard by Jehovah”, “and Joiarib” or “Jehovah contends”, “Jedaiah” whose name means “Jehovah has known”. Nehemiah shared how the men whose names mean “heard by Jehovah, Jehovah contends and Jehovah has known” were among the “priests and Levites that went up wit Zerubbabel”.

When we meditate upon Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover the names of three more of the names of the “priests and Levites” who returned from exile with Zerubbabel to Jerusalem and Judah. “Shemaiah, and Joiarib and Jedaiah” were used by God in the service of the temple in Jerusalem. God desires to employ us in His Kingdom as well, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead three days later, He made the way for us to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and led by His Holy Spirit as to where we are to be and what we are to do when we get there.

Next time Nehemiah shares about, “Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah and Jedaiah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
