In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the Levites in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, and Johanan, and Jaddua, were recorded chief of the fathers: also the priests, to the reign of Darius the Persian”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-three of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the sons of Levi, the chief of the fathers” where we read,
The sons of Levi, the chief of the fathers, were written in the book of the chronicles,
even until the days of Johanan the son of Eliashib.
The verse reads, “The sons of Levi, the chief of the fathers, were written in the book of the chronicles, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the sons of Levi” whose name means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Levi whose name means joined to”, “the chief of the fathers” or “the head, top, summit and chieftain belonging to the male ancestors”, “were written” which means “were inscribed, engraved and documented” “in the book of the chronicles” or “within the written, inscribed and engraved missive, document or scroll pertaining to the chronicles which means the speech, utterance and provision”. Nehemiah shared about the male offspring of “Levi” who were the heads of their male ancestors and were inscribed and accounted for within the record of the times. (See 1Chronicles 9:14-44)
The verse goes on to say, “... even until the days of Johanan the son of Eliashib.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “even until the days of Johanan” or “until the time period and season belonging to Johanan whose name means Jehovah has graced” “the son of Eliashib” whose name means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Eliashib whose name means God restores”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Levi” who were the head of the male ancestors were written in “The Book of History” or the “Chronicles” within the Bible down to the days of “Johanan” who was the grandson of “Eliashib”.
When we consider Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover how he mentioned the male offspring of “Levi” who were recorded in the “Chronicles”. The record was kept until the time when “Johanan” who was “Eliashib's” male offspring or grandson arrived. God knew the time for all these servants to the priests within the temple, and He knows our times as well. We are invited to have a personal intimate relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to serve in His Kingdom whenever and wherever He desires.
Next time Nehemiah shares more about, “the chief of the Levites”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
