Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the Mother of James and Other Women - Luke 24:10

Luke the beloved physician wrote about the women who knew Jesus, “upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek you the living among the dead?He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words, and returned from the sepulcher, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse ten of his book Luke shared about, “Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them” where we read:

It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James,

and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.

The verse reads, “It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, ... Luke began with the words, “It was Mary Magdalene or “the women who heard the angels' message were as follows Mary Magdalene which means their rebellion and a tower which identified her as from Magdala”, “and Joanna” which means “Jehovah is a gracious given and was the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward and a follower of Jesus”, “and Mary the mother of James” or “and Mary which means their rebellion who was the female ancestor and progenitor of James which means supplanter”. Luke shared how “Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Mary who was James' mother” were among the women.

The verse goes on to say, “... and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.” Luke continued with the words, “and other women that were with them” which means “and the remaining and rest of the females who were alongside Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Mary the mother of James”, “which told these things” or “who spoke, affirmed, maintained and mention” “unto the apostles” which means “to the sent out ones, messengers, and delegates”. Luke shared how all the women proclaimed the words of the “two angels” to the “disciples” or “apostles” of Jesus.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn who some of the women were who saw the “two angels” and received their message concerning Jesus' resurrection. God allowed His “angels” to speak to the women, and then He inspired the them to tell the disciples what they saw and heard. God's plan for the salvation of mankind was being spread, and God used these women who ministered to Jesus while He was proclaiming the gospel of the Kingdom of God to tell about His resurrection. God wants to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and those who yield their lives to Him not only will be forgiven of their sins, but will receive everlasting life in Heaven with God.

Next time Luke shares how the women's, “words seemed to them as idle tales”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
