Luke the beloved physician wrote about the women who knew Jesus, “upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek you the living among the dead?He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse eight of his book Luke shared how the women “remembered his words” where we read:
And they remembered his words,
The verse reads, “And they remembered ...” Luke began with the words, “and they” or “the women”, “remembered” which means “recalled and were mindful of” the following. Luke shared how “the women” recalled the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... his words, ...” Luke continued with the words, “his words” which means “Jesus speeches and discourses”. Luke shared how the women “recalled” what Jesus said to them.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we should learn from the “women” who remembered what Jesus said. Jesus told them He would be “punished, tortured and crucified” by “wicked men”, and three days after His death, He would “rise again”. Jesus did as He said, and He not only was “crucified”, but also rose from the dead three days afterward. Now everyone who yields their life to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life. Let all who read these words not only hear God's words, but also yield their lives to Him.
Next time Luke shares how the women, “returned from the sepulcher, and told all these things unto the eleven”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
