Jesus Sent to Herod - Luke 23:7

Luke the beloved physician wrote how, “the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate. And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King. And Pilate asked him, saying, Are you the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, You said it. Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man. And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place. When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean”, and in chapter twenty-three and verse seven of his book Luke shared when Pilate, “knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod” where we read:

And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod,

who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.

The verse reads, “And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, ... Luke began with the words, “and as soon as he knew or “and when Pilate became thoroughly acquainted with, perceived, recognized and ascertained” “that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction” which means “that Jesus was from the power, liberty, authority and rule of Herod whose name means heroic and was he name of a royal family that flourished among the Jews in the times of Christ and the Apostles”, “he sent him to Herod” or “Pilate conveyed and dispatched Jesus to Herod whose name means heroic and was he name of a royal family that flourished among the Jews in the times of Christ and the Apostles”. Luke shared how Pilate “sent” Jesus to “Herod” immediately after he understood Jesus was from that “Herod's” region.

The verse goes on to say, “... who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time. Luke continued with the words, “who himself also” which means “Herod, who even so and indeed” “was at Jerusalem” or “was located within the city of Jerusalem which means set you double peace and was the capital of Palestine” “at that time” which means “during that particular time”. Luke shared how “Herod” was in the city of Jerusalem at the time Jesus was brought to Pilate.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how God was working His plan of “salvation” for mankind. Pilate really didn't desire to judge Jesus according to the “religious leaders' desires, so when He discovered Jesus was from the region of Galilee where “Herod” had “jurisdiction”, he sent Jesus to “Herod”. Pilate determined Jesus was innocent, and he found “no fault in Him”. By sending Jesus to “Herod”, Pilate would release himself from the responsibility of judging Him. We shall see how that will change in our next few verses, but for now let it challenge us to know each person must judge who Jesus is, and they shall give an account to God for their determination. Jesus desires to be the “Lord and Savior” of everyone who believes and trusts in Him, therefore let all who read these words make their determination with great care.

Next time we see Luke shares, “when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
