Luke the beloved physician wrote after women told the disciples about Jesus being raised from the dead, “Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulcher; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass. And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse fourteen of his book Luke shared how the two disciples, “talked together of all these things” where we read:
And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
The verse reads, “And they talked together ...” Luke began with the words, “and they” or “and the two disciples of Jesus” “talked together” which means “conversed and communed with one another”. Luke shared how the two disciples were “talking” to one another as they walked toward “Emmaus”.
The verse goes on to say, “... of all these things which had happened.” Luke continues with the words, “of all these things” which means “about each, every, the whole and everything” “which had happened” or “that occurred or took place concerning the events and circumstances surrounding them”. Luke shared how the two disciples were discussing everything that occurred concerning Jesus.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how these “two disciples of Jesus” were conversing as they walked toward “Emmaus”. Their discussion centered around the current events such as Jesus dying, the women telling them that Jesus was risen and all the circumstances they in which they were involved. God knows the state of mankind and without Jesus, there would be no “salvation” from the penalty of sins. God sent His Son Jesus to die for the sins of the world, and He resurrected Him from the dead to demonstrate His power over death, hell and the grave. All who believe in Him will receive forgiveness and eternal life which are the things worth discussing with everyone.
Next time Luke shares as the two disciples, “communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
