Crucify Him, Crucify Him - Luke 23:21

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Pilate said of Jesus, “I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof you accuse him. No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him. I will therefore chastise him, and release him. (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.) And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas. (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.) Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spoke again to them”, and in chapter twenty-three and verse twenty-one of his book Luke wrote how the crowd, “cried saying, Crucify him, crucify him” where we read:

But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.

The verse reads, “But they cried, saying, ... Luke began with the words, “But they cried or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the religious leaders and multitude shouted aloud and exclaimed” “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the following words. Luke shared how the “religious leaders and multitude” continued their shouting with the following directive to Pilate.

The verse continues, “... Crucify him, crucify him. Luke added the words, “Crucify him” which means “stake, fortify with driven stakes and palisade Jesus”, “crucify him” or “stake, fortify with driven stakes and palisade Jesus”. Luke shared how the “religious leaders and crowd” yelled out for Pilate to have Jesus “crucified”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the “religious leaders and multitude” responded to Pilate's final attempt to set Jesus free. Rather than wanting Jesus to be “released”, they desired for Him to be “crucified”, and as though one time was not enough to make their message clear, they repeated it. This was the “crowd's” desire, but they were actually part of the fulfillment of God's desire to allow Jesus to die for the sins of mankind. Anyone who carefully examines all Jesus endured so people could be “saved” should be willing to yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Otherwise, they join in with the crowd who agrees with the phrase, “Crucify him, crucify him”.

Next time we see Luke shares how Pilate, “said unto them the third time, why, what evil has he done?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
