In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph shared how the people of Israel in the wilderness, “tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust. Yes, they spoke against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel. Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse twenty-three of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God, “commanded the clouds from above” where we read,
Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
The verse begins, “Though he had commanded the clouds from above, ...” Asaph began with the words, “though he had commanded the clouds” or “even though Jehovah God gave charge and appointment to the fine dust which makes clouds in the sky as a divine act” “from above” which means “toward an upward, higher and overhead position”. Asaph referred to the way Jehovah God ordered the in the skies.
The verse continues, “... and opened the doors of heaven,” Asaph added the words, “and opened the doors” or “and loosen, freed and thrown open the gates” “of heaven” which means “belonging to the visible universe, sky, atmosphere, abode of the stars and the place where Jehovah God dwells”. Asaph said Jehovah God also loosened and freed the gates or portholes within the sky and place where He dwells.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Asaph referred to the way God ordered the “clouds” in the sky and spread open the gates of “heaven” to benefit the people of Israel, and even though He provided for them, they did not appreciate Him. God always provides for people, and although it is not always according to the way we have desired, He knows what is best for us. God provided His Son Jesus to the world so that He could die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will grant us forgiveness and eternal life with Him. God is able to “command the clouds” and “open the doors of heaven”, and He has moved Heaven and Earth to be in a relationship with us. May all praise, glory and honor be unto Him who is worthy of our praise.
Next time Asaph shares how it, “rained down manna upon them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
