In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journeyed through the wilderness how they “provoked” God, and “the Lord awoke as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouts by reason of wine. And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach. Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim. But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved. And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he has established for ever”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse seventy of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “chose David also his servant”, where we read,
He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
The verse begins, “He chose David also his servant, ...” Asaph began with the words, “He chose David also” or “He, Jehovah God, elected, selected and decided upon David whose name means beloved and was the second king of Israel” “his servant” which means “his, Jehovah God's, slave, bondman and man of servile condition”. Asaph referred to how Jehovah God's bondman “David” was selected by Him.
The verse goes on to say, “... and took him from the sheepfolds:” Asaph continued with the words, “and took him” or “and fetched, seized and acquired him, David” “from the sheepfolds” which means “apart and separate from the enclosures of sheep”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God seized “David” while he was tending his father's sheep.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph referred to Jehovah God selecting “David” from being a shepherd to lead His people. God wants people to worship and serve Him, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, it was His invitation for everyone to come to Him. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and choose us to work according to His perfect will and plan.
Next time Asaph says Jehovah God chose David, “from following the ewes great with young”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
