In Psalms chapter eighty Asaph asked Jehovah God, “Why have you then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her? The boar out of the wood does waste it, and the wild beast of the field does devour it”, and in chapter eighty and verse fourteen of Psalms Asaph said, “return, we beseech you, O God of hosts”, where we read,
Return, we beseech you, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;
The verse begins, “Return, we beseech you, O God of hosts:” Asaph began with the word, “return” or “turn and come back”, “we beseech you” which means “we, Asaph and the people of Israel, pray, entreat and plead with you, Jehovah God”, “O God of hosts” or “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God over the spiritual messengers, envoys or angels”. Asaph appealed along with the people of Israel to Jehovah God who rules and reigns over the angels to do the following.
The verse continues, “look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;” Asaph added the words, “look down from heaven” or “show regard, consider and pay attention from the visible sky, universe, atmosphere and where Jehovah God dwells”, “and behold” which means “and see, perceive and have vision”, “and visit this vine” or “and attend to, number, reckon and look after this particular twining vine like a grape vine that represents Israel”. Asaph beckoned Jehovah God to pay attention to the twining vine which represents the land and people of Israel.
When we consider words in this verse, we see how Asaph wanted Jehovah God to come back to him and the people of Israel. They were suffering from the onslaught of their opposing nearby neighbors, and the wild animals were devouring their land. Asaph wanted God's protection, so he called upon the One who can protect like no other. God loves people, and He wants to provide and protect them both in this life and the life to come. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and become our protection and provision forever and ever.
Next time Asaph shares about Jehovah God concerning, “the vineyard which your right hand has planted”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
