God Heard and Was Angry - Psalms 78:59

In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journeyed through the wilderness how they “provoked” God, “to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse fifty-nine of Psalms Asaph said, “when God heard this, he was wroth” where we read,

When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

The verse begins, “When God heard this, he was wroth, ... Asaph began with the words, “when God heard this” or “at the time and moment the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God listened to, perceived, understood and paid attention to the high places and graven images of the people of Israel”, “he was wroth” which means “he, the Divine judge Jehovah God, existed as angry, indignant and filled with ire”. Asaph said at the time and moment the Divine judge Jehovah God perceived that the people of Israel had “high places” and formed “graven images”, He was exceedingly angry.

The verse continues,... and greatly abhorred Israel: Asaph added the words, “and greatly abhorred” or “and exceedingly, forcefully and abundantly rejected, despised and refused” “Israel” whose name means “God prevails” and was “the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”. Asaph said the Divine judge Jehovah God rejected and despised “Israel” after they made their “high places” and “graven images”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how Jehovah God responded to the “high places” and “graven images” produced by the people of Israel. God became angry at them, and He despised them. God knew they were attempting to replace Him as their God, and no other god, person or place has this ability. God was “jealous” for the people of Israel because it was to their own demise when they followed other gods. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:1-6), and Paul the apostle wrote, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (See Acts 4:12) A relationship with Jesus is the only way to be forgiven of our sins and granted everlasting life with God, and all other means of reaching the True Jehovah God are in vain. God invites everyone to believe and trust in His Son Jesus, and when we surrender to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, we will never face the anger and wrath of the only God who has the power to deliver and save us.

Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
