In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journeyed through the wilderness how Jehovah God, “led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse fifty-four of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “brought them to the border of his sanctuary” where we read,
And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary,
even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.
The verse begins, “And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, ...” Asaph began with the words, “and he brought them” or “and he, Jehovah God, carried, led and guided them, the people of Israel” “to the border” which means “toward the edge, limit and boundary” “of his sanctuary” or “belonging to his, Jehovah God's, sacred, apart and holy place”. Asaph said Jehovah God led the people of Israel to the edge of His holy and separate place.
The verse goes on to say, “... even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.” Asaph continued with the words, “even to this mountain” or “indeed unto this hill and rising above the plain”, “which his right hand” which means “that his, Jehovah God's, right hand of authority, power and might” “had purchased” or “acquired, possessed and obtained”. Asaph said Jehovah God led the people of Israel to the rising above the plain which was acquired by His power, might and authority.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how it was Jehovah God who guided the people of Israel out of Egypt and to the edge of His sacred land. Mount Sinai which was possessed by Jehovah God was in front of them, and they would soon be at the edge of it's base. God was to hand down His ten commandments to Moses upon that mountain, and when the people of Israel received them, they were to follow them. God's desire was to have an intimate relationship with the people of Israel, and He wants the same with us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins which separated us from Him, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to know His leading is to His sacred place with Him.
Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “cast out the heathen also before them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
