In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journeyed through the wilderness how they “provoked” God, and “He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse seventy-one of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God chose David, “from following the ewes great with young”, where we read,
From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people,
and Israel his inheritance.
The verse begins, “From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, ...” Asaph began with the words, “from following the ewes” or “separate and apart from pursuing and tailing the female sheep” “great with young” which means “while giving suckle to their young” “he brought him” or “he, Jehovah God, introduced, attained and carried him, David” “to feed his people” which means “to pasture, tend to and shepherd his, Jehovah God's, human beings both male and female”. Asaph said Jehovah God chose “David” from shepherding sheep who were nursing their young and chose him to be a shepherd to His people in the nation of “Jacob”.
The verse continues, “... and Israel his inheritance.” Asaph added the words, “and Israel” or “and Israel whose name means God prevails and was the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “his inheritance” which means “his, Jehovah God's, possession, property and portion”. Asaph referred to how Jehovah God chose “David” to shepherd His people “Israel” who was His possession and portion.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how Jehovah God selected “David” from shepherding “female sheep who were feeding their young” to be the shepherd over His people “Israel”. God loved “Israel”, and they needed a Godly leader who was trustworthy in the position in which He was given. “David” was faithful to his earthly father in that which He was commissioned, and this lead to Him being chosen to serve God as king over “Israel”. God desires to have a personal relationship with everyone who will surrender to His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and use and promote us in His kingdom according to His perfect will and plan.
Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “fed them according to the integrity of his heart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
