Where is Their God? - Psalms 79:10

In Psalms chapter seventy-nine Asaph said, “O remember not against us former iniquities: let your tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for your name's sake”, and in chapter seventy-nine and verse ten of Psalms Asaph said, “wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God?”, where we read,

Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God?

let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of your servants which is shed.

The verse begins, Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? Asaph began with the words, “wherefore should the heathen say” or “for what reason and cause should the foreigners, non-Hebrews and pagans utter, declare, proclaim and ask”, “where is their God” which means “in what place and location exists their, Asaph and the people of Israel's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”? Asaph asked why the foreign non-Hebrew pagans should be allowed to scoff and question the location and presence of the Divine judge of Israel.

The verse goes on to say,let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of your servants which is shed. Asaph continued with the words, “let him be known” or “allow and permit him, the Divine judge Jehovah God to exist as perceived, discerned, discovered and recognized” “among the heathen” which means “in the midst of the foreigners, non-Hebrews and pagans”, “in our sight” or “within the physical eyesight of Asaph and the people of Israel”, “by the revenging” which means “through the means of vengeance and avenging” “of the blood” or “pertaining to the bloodshed” “of your servants” which means “belonging to your, the Divine judge's, men of servile condition, slaves and bondmen” “which is shed” or “that exists as poured out, spread and sprawled out”. Asaph desired that the Divine judge, Jehovah God, of Israel would be recognized to the foreign nations by taking vengeance upon them who have spilled the blood of Jehovah's men of servile condition.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Asaph wanted the Divine judge Jehovah God to be revealed to the pagan nations while he and the people of Israel watched Him take vengeance upon them. Asaph desired to have God spill the blood of the pagans because they had done the same unto them. Isaiah the prophet wrote Jehovah God's words, For the day of vengeance is in my heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.” (See Isaiah 63:4), and Paul the apostle said, “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” (See Romans 12:19). God will certainly bring His revenge upon those who rise up against Him and His people, but He desires to have a personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus. Jesus came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and avenge Himself of those who rise up against Him and His followers.

Next time Asaph says, “Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
