In Psalms chapter seventy-nine Asaph said, “O remember not against us former iniquities: let your tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for your name's sake. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of your servants which is shed”, and in chapter seventy-nine and verse eleven of Psalms Asaph said, “Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you”, where we read,
Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you;
according to the greatness of your power preserve you those that are appointed to die;
The verse begins, “Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you;” Asaph began with the words, “let the sighing” or “allow and permit the crying, groaning and lamentation” “of the prisoner” which means “belonging to the captive” “come before you” or “enter and be lead and carried in the presence and front of you, Divine judge Jehovah God”. Asaph wanted the crying and groaning of the captives to be carried into the presence of Jehovah God.
The verse continues, “according to the greatness of your power preserve you those that are appointed to die;” Asaph added the words, “according to the greatness” or “in keeping with the magnificence, pride and insolence” “of your power” which means “belonging to your, the Divine judge Jehovah God's, arm, might and strength” “preserve you” or “Jehovah God save and show pre-eminence to” “those that are appointed to die” which means “the people who exist as destined and elected to be lifeless, without breath and executed”. Asaph desired that Jehovah God save the people who were destined to be killed by the use of His magnificence, power and strength.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph desired that the captives of Israel to be carried into the presence of the Divine judge Jehovah God and for Him to save the people who were destined to be put to death. The “heathens” had overrun Asaph and the people of Israel, and now they were not only imprisoning them, but also killing them. God knew these things, and His desire was to preserve and protect the people of Israel. They forsook Him, and He allowed their hating foes to come into their city. Nonetheless, God continued to want a relationship with them, and He desires the same for us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and contend with those who oppose Him and the people who believe in His Son Jesus.
Next time Asaph says, “render unto our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
