In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journeyed through the wilderness how Jehovah God, “had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan: And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink. He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them. He gave also their increase unto the caterpillar, and their labor unto the locust. He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore trees with frost”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse forty-eight of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “gave up their cattle …, and their flocks” where we read,
He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
The verse begins, “He gave up their cattle also to the hail, ...” Asaph began with the words, “He gave up their cattle also” or “He, Jehovah God, delivered their, the people of Israel's, beasts such as camels, donkeys, etc” “to the hail” which means “to the frozen hailstones”. Asaph said Jehovah God also destroyed the “cattle” of the Egyptians with the hailstones.
The verse continues, “... and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.” Asaph added the words, “and their flocks” or “and their, the people of Egypt's, livestock, cows, sheep and goats” “to hot thunderbolts” which means “to flaming fire-bolts and sparks”. Asaph referred to the livestock, cows, sheep and goats of the Egyptians were also destroyed by the fiery lightning within the hailstones. (See Exodus 9:28)
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Jehovah God destroyed the “cattle and livestock” of the Egyptians with the hailstones and mighty thunderings. One by one God was pouring out His wrath upon the people of Egypt because they restrained the people of Israel from going to worship Him. God wants people to be in a personal intimate relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. When we submit our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us and our belongings protected according to His Divine will and plan.
Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
