In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph shared when the people of Israel flattered and lied unto God in the wilderness, “they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse forty-three of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “wrought his signs in Egypt” where we read,
How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:
The verse begins, “How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, ...” Asaph began with the words, “how he had wrought” or “the way in which he, the Divine judge Jehovah God, put, set, lay upon, directed, extended and constituted” “his signs” which means “his, Jehovah God's, miraculous tokens, ensigns and miracles” “in Egypt” or “within Egypt whose name means land of the Copts and was a country at the northeastern section of Africa, adjacent to Palestine and through which the Nile flows”. Asaph referred to how Jehovah God performed His miracles on behalf of the people of Israel within the country of “Egypt”.
The verse goes on to say, “... and his wonders in the field of Zoan:” Asaph continued with the words, “and his wonders” or “and his, Jehovah God's, signs, tokens and miracles” “in the field of Zoan” which means “within the land, plain and country belonging to Zoan whose name means place of departure and was an ancient city of lower Egypt called Tanis by the Greeks; it was located on the eastern bank of the Tanitic branch of the Nile”. Asaph referred to the miracles and signs Jehovah God performed within the land of “Zoan”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Asaph called to mind the marvelous miracles Jehovah God performed on behalf of the people of Israel while they were in the country of “Egypt” and in the land of “Zoan”. (See Exodus 3:20; Deuteronomy 4:34, 6:22) Jehovah God made provision after provision on behalf of the people of Israel, and He does the same for us because He desires to have a personal relationship with every person. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and since sin separates us from a relationship with God, when we surrender to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to be aware of the wondrous miracles He provides on our behalf.
Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “turned their rivers into blood”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
