In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph shared when Jehovah God sent the people of Israel through the wilderness, “man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full. He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse twenty-seven of Psalms Asaph shared how, “He rained flesh also upon them as dust” where we read,
He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
The verse begins, “He rained flesh also upon them as dust, ...” Asaph began with the words, “He rained flesh” or “He, Jehovah God, caused it to rain food” “also upon them as dust” which means “even so and indeed on the people of Israel like and similar to powder, ashes or debris”. Asaph said Jehovah God caused it to “rain” or “pour forth” food on the people of Israel while they wandered in the desert wilderness.
The verse continues, “... and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:” Asaph added the words, “and feathered fowls” or “and birds with feathers upon the extremities of their bodies” “like as the sand” which means “similar and in likeness to the round or whirling particles of sand” “of the sea” or “belonging to the large waters such as the Red, Mediterranean or Dead Seas”. Asaph referred to the massive flock of “birds” or “quails” that Jehovah God brought to the people of Israel in the wilderness. (See Exodus 16:11-12; Numbers 11:1-19,32)
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Asaph recalled the time when Jehovah God not only provided a massive amount of “manna” to the people of Israel in the wilderness, but He also brought them quail to such a degree that they were more than satisfied from them. God loves to provide for people, and this is why He gave His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of everyone. Without a “Savior”, everyone would remain in a lost condition and without eternal life. Jesus said, “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16), and when we surrender to Him, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and enabled to call upon Him for whatever we need.
Next time Asaph shares how Jehovah God, “let it fall in the midst of their camp”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
