Seeking God When Slain - Psalms 78:34

In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph shared when Jehovah God provided food and water for the people of Israel in the wilderness, “for all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works. Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse thirty-four of Psalms Asaph said, “when he slew them, then they sought him” where we read,

When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and inquired early after God.

The verse begins, When he slew them, then they sought him: Asaph began with the words, “when he slew them” or “at the time and moment he, Jehovah God, slayed, destroyed, ruined and killed the people of Israel in the wilderness”, “then they sought him” which means “wherefore, therefore and on this account they, the people of Israel in the wilderness resorted to, inquired of, demanded and consulted him, Jehovah God”. Asaph said at the time Jehovah God destroyed and ruined the people of Israel in the wilderness, they inquired and consulted with Him.

The verse goes on to say, “and they returned and inquired early after God. Asaph continued with the words, “and they returned” or “and they, the people of Israel in the wilderness, turned back, refreshed and repented” “and inquired early after” which means “and diligently looked for” “God” or “the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. Asaph said the people of Israel turned back and diligently looked for Jehovah God after He judged their sin in the wilderness.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how the people of Israel in the wilderness came back to God and diligently searched for Him after He punished them for their unbelief. God loves people, and His desire is for us to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. He wants us to believe in Him because when we do, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us through whatever we encounter in the world. Regardless of our circumstances, we are to follow what Solomon wrote in Proverbs, Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.” (See Proverbs 3:5-6)

Next time Asaph shares how, “they remembered that God was their rock”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
