In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journeyed through the wilderness how Jehovah God, “made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse fifty-one of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “smote all the firstborn in Egypt” where we read,
And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:
The verse begins, “And smote all the firstborn in Egypt;” Asaph began with the words, “and smote” or “and slayed, killed and destroyed” “all the firstborn” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the eldest or first born sons” “in Egypt” or “within Egypt whose name means land of the Copts and was a country at the northeastern section of Africa and adjacent to Palestine through which the Nile flows”. Asaph said Jehovah God killed all the first born or eldest males within the country of Egypt. (See Exodus 12:12-30)
The verse goes on to say, “the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:” Asaph continued with the words, “the chief of their strength” or “the first fruits, beginning, choice and best belonging to the people of Egypt's vigor, generative power, might, authority, sustenance and ability” “in the tabernacles” which means “within the dwelling places, habitations and homes” “of Ham” or “belonging to Ham whose name means hot and was the second son of Noah who was father of Canaan and of various peoples which were inhabitants of southern lands”. Asaph said Jehovah God killed the first born males, who were considered to be the choice and best of Egypt's generative power and power, within their dwelling places and abodes.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how Jehovah God destroyed the first born males in Egypt who were considered to be the generative power of “Egypt”. He did this in their own homes. There is no limitation to God's presence and ability, and no one is able to keep themselves hidden or protected from Him when He decides to judge. God's desire and invitation is for every person to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and when we understand Jesus was sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, we need only to believe and trust in Him and God will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. Should we refuse His invitation, we will be subject to His judgment, and no one will be able to keep us from the judgment of God we have brought upon ourselves regardless of our position or station in this world.
Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “made his own people to go forth like sheep”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
