In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph shared when Jehovah God sent the people of Israel through the wilderness, “He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea. And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations. So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire. They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths, the wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse thirty-two of Psalms Asaph said, “for all this they sinned still” where we read,
For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
The verse begins, “For all this they sinned still, ...” Asaph began with the words, “for all this” or “in spite of everything that God caused and performed”, “they sinned still” which means “they, the people of Israel in the wilderness, continued to miss the mark, go wrong, incur guilt, offend and err”. Asaph said even through Jehovah God fed the people of Israel and dealt with them according to their lust and covetousness, they continued to offend Him and violate His law.
The verse goes on to say, “... and believed not for his wondrous works.” Asaph continued the words, “and believed not” or “and did not have faith, confidence or trust” “for his wondrous works” which means “within his, Jehovah God's, marvelous, surpassing, extraordinary and distinguishing acts, deeds or wonders”. Asaph said the people of Israel in the wilderness did not trust in Jehovah God for His extraordinary wonders and acts.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how the people of Israel in the wilderness continued to violate God's law and disregard Him even though He provided for them and judge the most covetous of them by death. Some people are defiant toward Jehovah God even when He grants their desires and punishes them when they violate Him. God's desires is to have a loving relationship with everyone, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. He wants us to surrender to Him for our benefit. When we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from sin by His wonderful acts and deeds.
Next time Asaph shares how, “their days did he consume in vanity”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
