The Dead Bodies - Psalms 79:2

In Psalms chapter seventy-nine Asaph said, “O God, the heathen are come into your inheritance; your holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps”, and in chapter seventy-nine and verse two of Psalms Asaph said, “The dead bodies of your servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls”, where we read,

The dead bodies of your servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven,

the flesh of your saints unto the beasts of the earth.

The verse begins, The dead bodies of your servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, ... Asaph began with the words, “the dead bodies” or “the lifeless carcasses” “of your servants” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, bondmen, slaves or men of servile service” “have they given to be meat” or “have they, the heathens, put, set, bestowed, granted and ascribed to exist as provender, food, flesh or victuals” “unto the fowls” which means “toward the flying birds” “of the heaven” or “belonging to the visible sky”. Asaph said the lifeless carcasses of the bondmen of Jehovah became food for the birds in the sky.

The verse goes on to say,...the flesh of your saints unto the beasts of the earth. Asaph continued with the words, “the flesh of your saints” or “the bodies belonging to your, Jehovah God's, godly, pious, kind and faithful ones” “unto the beasts” which means “to the wild animals” “of the earth” or “belonging to the country, region, territory and world”. Asaph said the heathen invaders gave the bodies of Jehovah God's godly, pious and faithful ones to the wild animals in the world.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how the foreigners also took the corpses of the bondmen of Jehovah God to allow the birds of the air to feast upon them, and they took the bodies of Gods pious and faithful people and gave them to the wild animals. God desired to preserve and protect the people of Israel, but they forsook Him, and He allowed foreigners not only to overtake their temple and city, but also their lives. God wants to protect people and have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the heathen when they desire to destroy us.

Next time Asaph says, “Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
