In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph shared when Jehovah God sent the people of Israel through the wilderness, “He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea. And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations. So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse thirty of Psalms Asaph shared how, “they were not estranged from their lust” where we read,
They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
The verse begins, “They were not estranged from their lust.” Asaph began with the words, “they were not estranged” or “the people of Israel were not in any way foreign, loathsome or alienated” “from their lust” which means “separate and apart from their, the people of Israel's, desires, longings of the heart, appetites and covetousness”. Asaph said the people of Israel were in no way foreign and alienated from their hearts appetites and covetousness.
The verse goes on to say, “But while their meat was yet in their mouths, ...” Asaph continued with the words, “but while their meat” or “however, notwithstanding, nonetheless and moreover during the time when their, the people of Israel's, food or quail” “was yet in their mouths” which means “was still and remaining in their, the people of Israel's, orifices in their faces used for drinking, eating and speaking”. Asaph recalled when the quail was in the “mouths” of the people of Israel in the wilderness.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how the people of Israel were not loathsome or alienated toward their covetousness, but during the time when the quail meat remained in their mouths, we shall see how God responded to them. At this point, let us carefully consider the passion and appetite of the people of Israel. We, like them, may desire or covet things that are not for our best interest, and although we want whatever that is, God knows whether it is good for us or not. God loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and because this was our greatest need, when we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to know when we desire things that are in opposition to His best for us.
Next time Asaph shares how, “the wrath of God came upon them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
