Hearts Not Right with God - Psalms 78:37

In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph shared when Jehovah God slew the people of Israel in the wilderness, “they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer. Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse thirty-seven of Psalms Asaph shared how, “their heart was not right with him” where we read,

For their heart was not right with him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant.

The verse begins, “For their heart was not right with him, ... Asaph began with the words, “for their heart” or “because, since and on account that their, the people of Israel in the wilderness', inner man, soul, mind, understanding, knowledge, thinking, reflection, memory, inclination, resolution, determination and conscience” “was not right with him” which means “did not exist as firm, stable, established and settled with him, the Divine judge Jehovah God”. Asaph said the reason the people of Israel in the wilderness flattered and lied to Jehovah God was because their souls and minds were not correct with Him.

The verse goes on to say, “... neither were they steadfast in his covenant. Asaph continued with the words, “neither were they steadfast” or “no and not in any way did they, the people of Israel in the wilderness, exist as supported, confirmed, faithful, upheld or nourished” “in his covenant” which means “within his, the Divine judge Jehovah God's, alliance, pledge, league, treaty, agreement and constitution”. Asaph said the people of Israel who wandered in the wilderness in no way upheld or were faithful to their alliance and agreement with Jehovah God.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph why the people of Israel continued to defy God's ways. They were defiant in their souls and minds. In other words, they had a heart problem. God knew this in advance for everyone because everyone sins against God (See Romans 3:23), and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the errors and wrongs of all mankind (See John 3:16). When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to keep His “covenant”.

Next time Asaph shares how Jehovah God, “being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
