In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journeyed through the wilderness how Jehovah God, “had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan: And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink. He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them. He gave also their increase unto the caterpillar, and their labor unto the locust”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse forty-seven of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore trees” where we read,
He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore trees with frost.
The verse begins, “He destroyed their vines with hail, ...” Asaph began with the words, “He destroyed their vines” or “He, ruined and killed their, the people of Egypt's, twining vines like grapevines” “with hail” which means “by the use of hailstones”. Asaph said Jehovah God ruined and killed their twining vines by the use of icy hailstones. (See Exodus 9:18-24)
The verse goes on to say, “... and their sycamore trees with frost.” Asaph continued with the words, “and their sycamore trees” or “and their, the people of Egypt's, fruit trees known as sycamores” “with frost” which means “by the use of sleet or icy precipitation”. Asaph said Jehovah God also destroyed the fruit bearing “sycamore trees” by the use of frozen precipitation.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Asaph referred to the way Jehovah God sent “hailstones” and “frost” upon the vegetation of the people of Egypt. The people of Israel were spared from God's judgment, but the vegetation of the people of Egypt was destroyed. God's desire is to show everyone that He wants to have a personal relationship with them. He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and preserve us when His judgment falls upon those who refuse to receive Him.
Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “gave up their cattle …, and their flocks”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
