In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journeyed through the wilderness how Jehovah God, “made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence. And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse fifty-two of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “made his own people to go forth like sheep” where we read,
But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
The verse begins, “But made his own people to go forth like sheep, ...” Asaph began with the words, “but made his own people” or “however Jehovah God set forth and removed His own human beings, nation, compatriots, country men, kinsman and kindred” “to go forth like sheep” which means “to proceed and set forth similar and in likeness to lambs, cattle and flocks”. Asaph said Jehovah God set forth His own nation to proceed similar to a flock of lambs from the country of Egypt.
The verse continues, “... and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.” Asaph added the words, “and guided them” or “and led, drove and conducted them, the people of God” “in the wilderness” which means “within the solitary, uninhabited desert place” “like a flock” or “similar to arrangements, musters and herds of animals”. Asaph referred to the way Jehovah God led His people within the desert place similar to an arrangement or herd of animals.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how Jehovah God rescued the people of Israel from the plagues that came upon Egypt. Egypt, for us, becomes a type of sin and the world, and Even as God rescued and preserved the people of Israel, He will “save” every person from the world and the sin within it who yields to His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. Jesus came into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. God delivers. God rescues, and God saves. Let us give praise honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus who have provided a way to escape the judgment that is certain to come upon everyone in the world who refuses and rejects His salvation.
Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “led them on safely, so that they feared not”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
