God Clothes the Grass and You - Luke 12:28

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus said, “Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat; neither for the body, what you shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them: how much more are you better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-eight of his book Luke shared how Jesus asked, “if then God so clothe the grass … how much more will he clothe you?” where we read:

If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven;

how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith?

The verse reads, “If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; Luke began with the words, “if then God” or “whether therefore, wherefore and these things being so that the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “so cloth the grass” which means “in this manner put on and enrobes the place where grass grows and animals graze such as with hay, provender or growing crops”, “which is to day in the field” or “that is upon the current sunrise to sunset within land, country, tillage, farm or neighboring hamlets”, “and to morrow is cast into the oven” which means “and the next day or the day after the current one is thrown or scattered into a clibanus which is an earthen vessel for baking bread”. Luke shared how Jesus referred to the way God the Father enrobes the “fields of grass” upon a current day and the following day are thrown into “an earthen vessel for baking bread”.

The verse goes on to say, “how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith?” Luke added the words, “how much more” or “to what greater degree and more willingly” “will he clothe you” which means “will God put on and enrobe those listening to him”, “O you of little faith” or “O people who are incredulous, lacking confidence and trusting too little”? Luke shared how Jesus questioned the “untrusting” people listening to Him as to whether they understood God would to an even greater degree “keep them in clothing”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus referred to God's care for the “grass of the field” as He wanted the people to know God would all the more care for their clothing and provision. God created people, and He knows best how to care for them. He sent His Son Jesus to the world to die for their sins to care for their separation from Him, and His desire is to provide not only physical but spiritual things for everyone who will yield their lives to Him. Those who are wise will “consider the fields of grass” and realize God cares for them all the more.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “seek not you what you shall eat, or what you shall drink”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
