The Life is More than Meat - Luke 12:23

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus said, “Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat; neither for the body, what you shall put on”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-three of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “the life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment” where we read:

The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

The verse reads, “The life is more than meat, ... Luke began with the words, “the life” or “the breath and vital force which animates the body and shows itself in breathing” “is more than meat” which means “consist of more than food and nourishment”. Luke shared how Jesus said “living and breathing” itself consists of more than what a person has to “eat”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and the body is more than raiment.” Luke added the words, “and the body” or “and the physical corpse” “is more than raiment” which means “consists of more than clothing, garments and cloaks”. Luke shared how Jesus said a person's “body” consist of more than the “clothing” they wear.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn what Jesus said is “more important” in “living”. Because God watches over everything, He cares for it all. He knows the importance of people having “food” and “clothing”, and He provides for people even when they have not yielded their lives to Him. God wants people to know His “goodness”, and as Paul the apostle wrote, the goodness of God leads you to repentance”. (See Romans 2:4). Those who are wise will carefully consider their “lives” and submit them to Jesus who promised to provide their “food” and “clothing”.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “consider the ravens”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
