The Hairs on Your Head are Numbered - Luke 12:7

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear him, which after he has killed has power to cast into hell; yes, I say unto you, Fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?”, and in chapter twelve and verse seven of his book Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples, “the very hairs of your head are all numbered” where we read:

But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows.

The verse reads, “But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Luke began with the words, “but even the very hairs or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover also and indeed the hairs of a person” “of your head” which means “belonging to those who are listening to Jesus' physical heads” “are all numbered” or “are each, every, the whole and everyone enumerated and counted”. Luke shared how Jesus declared that “every” “hair” upon a person's “head” is counted, numbered and known by God.

The verse continues, “Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke added the words, “fear not therefore” or “then, wherefore, consequently and these things being so do not be afraid, fearful, put to flight and seized with alarm”: “you are of more value” which means “because and since those listening to Jesus are of greater, excelling and surpassing importance” “than many sparrows” or “compared to a great number of little birds that are of the sparrow sort”. Luke shared how the people listening to them had no need to be afraid because they were more valuable than a massive flock of “sparrows”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus established the “value” of people as He spoke to the people listening to Him. He made them aware that God knows how many “hairs” are upon their “heads”, and they were “worth” much more than a whole flock of “sparrows”. God cares so dearly about people that He keeps “count” of the “hair on their heads”, and they are much more valuable than “sparrows”. Value is determined by the “price” someone pays for the object, and God paid the life of His Son Jesus upon the cross to purchase the relationship with every person who will “believe and trust” in Him. Those who are wise will not let any other voice in the world determine their value, but always refer to the “cross” upon which Jesus died to show them how “valuable” they are to God.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus tells His disciples, “whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
