Jesus Teaching and Journeying to Jerusalem - Luke 13:22

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus again asked, “Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?”, and He continued, “It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened”, and in chapter thirteen and verse twenty-two of his book Luke shared how Jesus was, “teaching and journeying to Jerusalem” where we read:

And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.

The verse reads, “And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, ...” Luke began with the words, “and he went through the cities” or “and Jesus traveled, passed and journeyed toward and along towns, dwelling places and habitations” “and villages” which means “and common sleeping places to which laborers in the field return”, “teaching” or “holding discourses, imparting instruction and instilling doctrine”. Luke shared how Jesus continued “traveling” through “dwelling places and habitations” and taught the people as He journeyed.

The verse goes on to say, “... and journeying toward Jerusalem.” Luke continued with the words, “and journeying” or “and undertaking, pursuing and going” “toward Jerusalem” which means “to the city of Jerusalem which was the capital of Palestine and means set you double peace”. Luke shared how Jesus continued traveling toward the city of Jerusalem.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus continued upon His way to different places where people lived and taught them as He went. This time He directed His path toward “Jerusalem” where He was to suffer and die for the sins of mankind. God loves people, and He purposed through His Son Jesus to pay the penalty for their sins by having Jesus die on the cross for them. Jesus traveled. Jesus journeyed, and Jesus taught along the way, but His main purpose was to “die” so people might have a personal relationship with God. Those who examine Jesus' purpose and resolve will understand His willingness to go to “Jerusalem” to “save” them and give them everlasting life.

Next time Luke shares how one said about Jesus, “Lord, are there few that be saved?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
