Judge You Not What is Right? - Luke 12:57

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “When you see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway you say, There comes a shower; and so it is. And when you see the south wind blow, you say, There will be heat; and it comes to pass. You hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that you do not discern this time?”, and in chapter twelve and verse fifty-seven of his book Luke shared how Jesus asked, “why even of yourselves judge you not what is right?” would be divided where we read:

Yes, and why even of yourselves judge you not what is right?

The verse reads, “Yes, and why even of yourselves ...” Luke began with the word, “yes” or “but, moreover”, “and why even of yourselves” which means “and for what reason also and indeed do the people who are listening to Jesus” do the following. Luke shared how Jesus referred to the “people in the crowd” themselves doing the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... judge you not what is right?” Luke continued with the words, “judge you not” or “do the people not determine, call into question and esteem” “what is right” which means “that which is meet, just and righteous”? Luke shared how Jesus asked the people why they did not “call into question” that which was “righteous and just”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus questioned the people why they could not “discern” “righteous and just” things. God loves people, and He wants to have a personal relationship with them through His Son Jesus. When they rely upon, trust in and cling to Him, they should “judge what is right” and realize the Messiah and Savior is among them.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, as you are in the way, give diligence that you may be delivered from him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
