The Holy Ghost Shall Teach You - Luke 12:12

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God. But he that denies me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemes against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take you no thought how or what thing you shall answer, or what you shall say”, and in chapter twelve and verse twelve of his book Luke shared how Jesus tells His disciples, the Holy Ghost shall teach you … what you ought to saywhere we read:

For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what you ought to say.

The verse reads, “For the Holy Ghost shall teach you ... Luke began with the words, “for the Holy Ghost” or “because, since and on account that the pure, morally blameless and religiously and ceremonially consecrated third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, coeternal with the Father and the Son“shall teach you” which means “will impart instruction, instill doctrine, explain and expound to believers in Jesus”. Luke shared how Jesus said God's “Holy Spirit” would “impart instruction” and “explain to” His believers concerning the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... in the same hour what you ought to say.” Luke continues with the words, “in the same hour” or “within that selfsame definite time and moment” “what you ought to say” which means “that which it is necessary, meet and needful to utter, declare and proclaim”. Luke shared how Jesus said “that which is necessary” to proclaim will be given to believers in Him at the exact and perfect time.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see why there was no need for believers in Jesus to be “anxious or worried” about what to “say” when they were brought before the authorities for their “beliefs”. Jesus said God's “Holy Spirit” would provide in the exact moment what was “necessary” to “say”. In other words, Jesus said His “disciples” could rely upon the “Holy Spirit” to help them. God knew believers in His Son Jesus would suffer “persecution” and “judgment” from people, and when they encounter times of arrest and capture, they may count on God's Holy Spirit not only to be with them, but also to tell them what to “say”. God loves every person, and His desire is to “save” them from their “sins” through believing in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Those who believe may be carried before “magistrates”, but Jesus' promise is that He will never leave them nor forsake them regardless of the suffering they endure.

Next time Luke shares how, “one of the company said unto him, Master”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
