Your Heart Revealed by Your Treasure - Luke 12:34

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “Sell that you have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches, neither moth corrupts”, and in chapter twelve and verse thirty-four of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” where we read:

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The verse reads, “For where your treasure is, ... Luke began with the words, “for where” or “because, since and on account that the place and location” “your treasure is” which means “the people's storehouse, repository, coffer or receptacle in which valuables are kept exists”. Luke shared how Jesus said the place where a person's “repository for valuables” exists will reveal the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... there will your heart be also.” Luke continued with the words, “there will your heart be or “in that place and location will a person's soul or mind, as it is the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes, endeavors exist” “also” which means “even so and indeed”. Luke shared how Jesus said the “soul” of a person will exist in the same place as their “repository for valuables”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see a direct link between the “heart” of a person and their “treasure”. When a person pursues “riches, wealth and valuables” of this earth, their “soul” will be driven toward those things, and any “temporary” drive will demand a person's time, energy and effort to gain what they desire. God wants people to “treasure” a relationship with Him through a relationship with His Son Jesus, and when they rely upon, trust in and cling to Him, their “heart” will be in the greatest place it can be.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “let your loins be girded … and lights burning”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
