Building Next To - Nehemiah 3:2

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah went back to the city of Jerusalem to rebuild it, “then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel”and in chapter three and verse two of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about people who, “next to builded”, where we read,

And next unto him builded the men of Jericho. And next to them builded Zaccur the son of Imri.

The verse reads, And next unto him builded the men of Jericho.. Nehemiah began with the words, “and next unto him” or “and beside or in close proximity to Eliashib” “builded the men of Jericho” which means “established, rebuilt and caused to continue the male human beings belonging to Jericho whose name means it's moon”. Nehemiah shared how the male human beings belonging to “Jericho” were rebuilding the wall in close proximity to “Eliashib”.

The verse continues, And next to them builded Zaccur the son of Imri.” Nehemiah added the words, “and next to them”or “and beside or in close proximity to the men of Jericho” “builded Zaccur” which means “established, caused to continue Zaccur whose name means mindful” “the son of Imri” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Imri whose name means eloquent”. Nehemiah shared how “Zaccur” who was “Imri's” male offspring rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem in close proximity to the “men of Jericho”.

When we consider Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover how the men of Israel were working beside one another on sections of the wall of Jerusalem. The “men of Jericho” were working close to the people of “Eliashib”, and beside them was “Zaccur” who was “Imri's” male offspring. One by one these families were coming together to make secure the city of Jerusalem, and as a team or assembly of people, they were accomplishing the work of the LORD. God wants us to be a part of His family – His team, and we become a part when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross and was resurrected from the dead for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth so we may accomplish His will and word in the world.

Next time Nehemiah says, “the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
