In
addition to Jesus being superior to “angels and
prophets”, He as creator “of
all things” has been shown to
be “of more honor”
than Moses who was over his own “house”.
In chapter three and verse six of Hebrews we see how Jesus is
“Christ as a son over his own house” where we read:
But
Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we,
if
we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto
the end.
The
verse begins, “But Christ as a son over his own house;
whose house are we,...” The
writer began with the word, “But”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated, “Christ”
which means “anointed” and was “the Messiah, the Son of God ”
“as a son” or “in
likeness to a descendant or posterity of any one ” “over”
which means “on, by, before or ” “his own house”
or “his inhabited home, building, palace or tabernacle”; “whose
house” which refers to “Jesus'
own inhabited home, building, palace or tabernacle” “are
we” which means “the Hebrew
writer and his fellow believers”. Believers in Jesus Christ make up
His “house”, and
we are blessed to have Him “over”
us.
The
verse continues, “ ...if we hold fast the confidence and
the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.”
The writer added, “if we hold fast” which
means “in case we detain, retain from going away, restrain and
hinder” “the confidence”
or “freedom in speaking, unreserved in speech, openness, frankness
and without concealment” “and the rejoicing”
which means “and the glorying and boasting” “of the
hope” or “expectation of
good and joyful expectation” “firm”
which means “stable and fast” “unto the end”
which refers to “the termination and limit at which a thing ceases
to be”. The writer gives a condition, “if”,
we cease from going away or hindering the “frankness and
concealment” of “glorying” “firmly”
until the end of all things.
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we understand Jesus'
position over the church wherein His believers worship, praise and
learn about Him. They are like a “house”
over which Jesus presides, and they are to “rejoice in” and keep
“hope” in a
certain and “stable” way until God puts everything under Jesus'
feet. Oh let us rejoice in Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, and may
we “glory in” and “firmly keep” “hope”
alive until He brings all things to an end.
Next
time we see
the writer refer to the “Holy
Ghost”
saying “Today
if you will hear his voice”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
