The writer of Hebrews
asked, “how shall we escape so great
a salvation”
as He referred to that “which at the
first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by
them that heard him”.In
chapter two and verse four of Hebrews, we learn how “God
also” was
“bearing them
witness” where we read:
and with
divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own
will?
The
verse begins, “God
also bearing them
witness, both with signs and wonders,...”
The
writer began with the word, “God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “also
bearing them
witness” which
means “attested together with, joined in bearing witness and united
in adding testimony”, “both with
signs” or
“marks, tokens, unusual occurrences which transcend the common
course of nature” “and wonders”
which refers
to “miracles, prodigies or omens”. God Almighty “attested” to
the validity of Jesus' words by demonstration of “unusual
occurrences” and “miracles” which Jesus performed.
The
verse goes on to say, “and with divers miracles, and
gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?”
The writer continued, “and with divers miracles”
or “by means of various and variegated strengths, powers and
abilities”, “and gifts”
which means “by means of divisions, partitions, separations and
dividing asunder” “of the Holy Ghost”
which refers to “Most Holy, morally, religiously, ceremonially and
consecrated, pure and sacred third person of the triune God who is
coequal, coeternal with the Father and the Son”, “according
to” or “down from, through
out, toward and along” “his own will”
which means “God's own option and determination”. In addition to
“signs and wonders”, Jesus performed different miracles through
the power of the “Holy Spirit” any time He desired to do so.
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we see how the words of
Jesus were “confirmed” by the “supernatural miracles” which
He performed. Opening the eyes of the blind, making the deaf to hear,
the mute to speak and the lame man to walk were only a few of His
wonderful “unusual occurrences” manifested while He walked the
earth. No one ever “walked on water, calmed a storm or raised
people to life again” like Jesus, and because of this, we should
take heed to His words. Jesus Christ is the Lord, Messiah and Savior
of the world, and should we have any doubts, let us review His
awesome power and miracles demonstrated while He was among men. All
praise and glory be to miracle working Jesus who is King of Kings and
Lord of Lords!
Next
time we see
the writer declares “unto
the angels has he not put in subjection the world to come”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
