The
writer of Hebrews desired for his readers to “consider
the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus who was
faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was
faithful in all his house”.
In chapter three and verse three of
Hebrews the writer declared that Jesus “was
counted worthy of more glory than Moses”
where we read:
inasmuch
as he who has built the house has more honor than the house.
The
verse begins, “
For this man
was counted worthy of more glory than Moses,...” The
writer began with the word, “For”
which means “as, because, even, indeed, no doubt, seeing then and
therefore” “this man”
which refers to “Christ Jesus” “was
counted worthy” which
means “thought meet, fit, right and deserving” “of
more glory”
or “greater, superior and more excellent opinion, judgment, view,
estimate and honor” “than Moses”
whose name
means “drawing out” and was “the legislator of the Jewish
people and in a certain sense the founder of the Jewish religion”.
Jesus “deserves” more honor than Moses.
The
verse goes on to say, “...inasmuch as he who has built
the house has more honor than the house.” The
writer continued, “inasmuch as”
or “down from, throughout, according to, toward and along” “he
who has built” which means
“the one who furnishes, equips, prepares and makes ready”
“the house” or “the
inhabited palace, home, tabernacle or dwelling place” “has
more honor” which means
“valuing by which the price is fixed, deference and reverence”
“than the house”
which refers to “the inhabited palace, home, tabernacle or dwelling
place”. The reason Jesus “deserves more glory”
than Moses is because He was the “builder” of the dwelling places
of man.
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we may admire the great life
and obedience of Moses, however, the writer shares how Jesus was the
one who “built” and created everything in which Moses
lived. Though Moses was great, Jesus is greater. Those who realize
the grandness of Jesus will find it easy to put their trust in Him,
and should there be those who admire the life of Moses, remember,
Jesus essentially gave Moses his ability and opportunity to perform
his work.
Next
time we see
the writer declares how “he
that built all things is
God”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
