The
writer of Hebrews wrote that we are to “exhort one
another daily, while it is called Today” because
otherwise we might be “hardened through the deceitfulness
of sin”. In chapter
three and verse fourteen of Hebrews, we see the
writer declare how we are “partakers of Christ” where
we read:
For we are
made partakers of Christ,
if we
hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
The
verse begins, “For we are made partakers of Christ,...”
The writer began with the words,
“For” which means
“as, because, even, indeed, no doubt, seeing then and therefore”
“we are made”
which means “we are become, come into existence, begun to be,
happened and received being” “partakers”
or “partners, sharers and associates” “of Christ”
which means “the anointed one and Messiah” and refers to “Jesus,
God's only begotten Son”. The Hebrew writer wanted his readers to
know they are “become” the “partners and associates” of Jesus
Christ.
The
verse goes on to say, “ ...if we hold the beginning of
our confidence steadfast unto the end;” The
writer added, “if we hold”
which means “in case we altogether and very much keep, possess,
stay, detain and retain” “the beginning”
or “the principal, origin and first” “or our
confidence” which means “a
setting or placing under, substructure, foundation, firmness, courage
and resolution” “steadfast”
or “stable, fast, firm, sure and trusty” “unto the
end” which refers to “as far
as and until the uttermost, final, limit and termination at which a
thing ceases to be”. The condition for knowing we are “made
partakers of Christ” is that
we “keep” our “foundation” firm until the “end”
of things that “be”.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we find ourselves rejoicing
in that we may be “partakers of Christ”, and we know the
condition to be able to stay this way - “keeping” “our
confidence steadfast unto the end”. Jesus Christ came to the
world to “save” everyone who will believe in Him - “For God
so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that
whosoever believes in him, should not perish, but have everlasting
life” (John 3:16) and to make them “partners” with Him in
the faith. Let us weigh these powerful words of the writer of Hebrews
and “keep” ourselves “steadfast unto the end” in “our
confidence” in Jesus.
Next
time we see
the writer exhort us to “hear
his voice”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
