In the first verse of the
book of Hebrews, we were referred to the way God spoke by His
“prophets” in various times and ways to the “forefathers”
in the past, and in chapter one and verse two of Hebrews the author
shares how God “in these last days spoke unto us by his Son”
where we read:
whom he has appointed
heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
The
verse begins, “Has in these last days spoken unto us by
his Son,...” The
writer began, “Has in these last days”
which refers to “in the uttermost, end and latter times”
“spoken” or “said, told,
talked, preached and uttered” “unto us” which
means “those who were in the present day of the book of Hebrews and
to us today” “by his Son” or
“God's posterity who is His only begotten Son Jesus”. In the days
of the writing of the book of Hebrews and for us as well, God has
spoken “by his Son”.
The
verse continues, “...whom
he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the
worlds;” The writer continues,
“whom he has appointed”
which means “whom God has put, placed and laid down as”
“heir” or “the one who
receives the lot or allotted possession and portion by right of
sonship” “of all things”
which means “each, every, any, the whole and everything”, “by
whom also” or “though him
indeed, even, both and likewise” “he made”
which means “produced, constructed, formed and fashioned” “the
worlds” or “the universe,
period of time and age”. God put Jesus in the position of “the
one who receives the allotted portion” of everything, and it was
through Him that He “fashioned” “the worlds”.
When
we think through these words of Hebrews, we understand the superior
voice and position Jesus was given by God the Father. Jesus “made”
the world, “All things were made by him; and without him
was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:1), and God put
Him in the position of “heir” of all of it. This position
is much greater than any of the Old Testament prophets, and
demonstrates how His voice superior to theirs. As we continued in our
study, let us keep in mind the greatness of Jesus Christ above all
others who have spoken on behalf of God.
Next
time we see
the how God's Son Jesus is “the
brightness of his
glory, and the express image of his person”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
