We
have learned in the book of Hebrews concerning Jesus and His
preeminence over “prophets”
of
old and “the
angels”.
We have found that He was the
“first-begotten into the world”
and how God not only told the angels to worship Him, but also gave
Him power over them who were His “ministers”.
Jesus' “throne”
was
to be “forever
and ever”
and His scepter was to be “righteousness”
in His “kingdom”.
In chapter one and verse ten of Hebrews we learn about God's
“foundation
of the earth” and
“the
heavens” being
the “work
of” His
“hands”
where
we read:
And,
You, Lord, in the beginning have laid the foundation of the earth;
and
the heavens are the works of your hands:
The
verse begins, “And,
You, Lord, in the beginning have laid the foundation of the earth;”
The
writer began,
“And, You, Lord”
which means “even, indeed and also to you whom a person or thing
belongs, about which he has power of deciding as master. This is the
title given to God the Messiah” “in
the beginning”
or “at the origin or time when a thing commences” “have
laid the foundation”
or “made and established the basis and grounds” “of
the earth”
which refers to “the arable land, ground, standing place, country,
territory and region of the terrine globe”. Before the origin of
everything, including “the
foundation of the earth”,
God was there, and He “established and created” it all.
The
verse goes on to say, “and
the heavens are the works of your hands:” The
writer continued, “and
the heavens”
which means “the vaulted expanse of the sky with all things visible
in it and the region above the sidereal heavens where the seat of
order of things eternal and consummately perfect are, and where God
and other heavenly beings dwell” “are
the works”
or “the business, enterprise, employment and undertakings” “of
your hands”
which refers to “God's mighty power, help, activity and
preservation”. The
“heavens” were
also the creative work of God's “hands”.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we may be reminded of the
third verse of the eighth chapter of Psalms, “When
I consider your heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the
stars, which you have ordained.”.
God made everything which speaks to His omnipotence. He is all
powerful, and He designated His Son Jesus to receive all power and
glory from Him. Knowing this, we should recognize the powerful
creative genius of our Almighty God, and “trust in, rely upon and
cling to” His Son Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.
Next
time we see
the writer share how the earth and the heavens “shall
perish” and
“wax
old as does a garment”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
