The
“first-begotten”
Son of God, Jesus, is preeminent over the old time “prophets”
and the “angels” according
to the writer of Hebrews, and though the temporary “heavens
and the earth” were “made”
by Him, they could be easily “folded up”
and destroyed. Jesus, God's Son was eternal would “remain”,
and in chapter one and verse thirteen of Hebrews we see how
none of the angels were told by God to “Sit on my right hand”
where we read:
The
verse begins, “But to which of the angels said he at any
time, Sit on my right hand,...” The
writer began with the word, “But”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated, “moreover,
nevertheless and nonetheless”, “to which of the angels”
which means “who among the messengers, envoys, ones sent, an
angel and messengers from God” “said he”
or “uttered, proclaimed or declared” “at any time”
which refers to “at any moment, once, afore-time, period or some
time”, “Sit on”
or “be seated, occupied, be fixed and dwell” “my
right hand” which refers to
“God's place of honor or authority”. There was no place where God
said to any of the “angels”,
“sit here” at His
“right hand” of
power and authority.
The
verse goes on to say, “...until I make your enemies your
footstool?” The writer
continued, “until I make”
or “set, put, place or lay” “your enemies”
which refers to “Jesus' odious, hateful, opposing and hostile ones”
“your footstool”
or “Jesus' footstool of His feet who are reduced under His power
and like unto those who when conquered placed their feet on the necks
of the conquered enemies”? The time of sitting at God's “right
hand” was to be until God
“conquered” Jesus' foes and “enemies”.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we see once again the superiority
of Jesus to any of the “angels”. Jesus was given the
position of “power and authority” at the “right hand of
God”, and no one else holds that position. God will defeat the
“enemies” of Jesus, and Jesus will be at His “right
hand” until He does. We should know by now, Jesus has absolute
authority, and we can do no better than to submit our lives to Him,
ask Him to be our Savior and Lord, and turn from being as the “enemy”
of God that shall be under His “footstool”.
Next
time we see
the writer share how the angels are
“ministering spirits”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
